Five hundred residential fire smoke alarms were donated to the Qianzhen Fire Brigade for installation. With assistance from the brigade, the alarms were installed in households registered by the Social Affairs Bureau as low-income and middle-to-low-income families within the district, helping to improve residential safety for vulnerable groups.
According to the 2021 Taiwan Fire Statistics published by the National Fire Agency of the Ministry of the Interior, building fires ranked first among all types of fires, with residential fires occurring most frequently. Fire-related injuries and fatalities often occur late at night or in the early morning, when residents are asleep and unable to respond promptly. Residential fire smoke alarms play a critical role by issuing an immediate audible warning at the early stage of a fire, alerting occupants to evacuate quickly and significantly enhancing household fire safety.
The Sunon Charity Foundation has long been committed to caring for vulnerable communities. In support of the Kaohsiung City Fire Department’s “Smoke Detection Homes, Greater Peace of Mind” initiative, the Foundation donated 500 residential fire smoke alarms to the Kaohsiung City Government Fire Department. These alarms are designated for installation in the homes of elderly individuals living alone, persons with disabilities, low-income households, as well as low-rise apartments and townhouse-style residences (five stories or fewer) throughout the city.
By providing early fire detection and alerts, the initiative aims to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by residential fires while strengthening overall home fire prevention. Priority for installation of the donated smoke alarms was given to vulnerable households within Qianzhen District, where Sunon’s headquarters is located, demonstrating continued care for disadvantaged communities and a strong commitment to safeguarding citizens’ residential safety.
