Sunonwealth Electric Machine Industry Co., Ltd. has been recognized for its outstanding low-carbon transformation strategies and results, earning a spot in Business Weekly's prestigious "Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness Companies." Out of 447 participating enterprises across Taiwan, SUNON stood out as a representative leader.

The company excelled in the Ministry of Economic Affairs' "Large Enterprises Driving Small Enterprises Low-Carbon Transformation Project." Internally, it established a "Sustainable Development Committee" to assist supply chain partners with carbon inventory, energy optimization, and low-carbon technology adoption. These efforts have significantly boosted carbon reduction across the entire industrial chain, underscoring SUNON's pivotal role in promoting sustainable development and driving industrial upgrades.

The Business Weekly "Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness" rankings assess companies based on multiple criteria, including carbon reduction efforts, carbon productivity growth rate, commitment to carbon reduction, and carbon emission increase rates. This year, SUNON was named among the Top 100, achieving a remarkable 13.4% reduction in carbon emissions. This accomplishment not only reflects the company’s success in implementing low-carbon practices but also highlights its influential leadership in the industry. As part of the "Large Enterprises Driving Small Enterprises Low-Carbon Transformation Project," SUNON guided ten suppliers in collaborative carbon reduction efforts. The original target was an annual reduction of 440 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e). Impressively, the initiative achieved results 13 times beyond the initial goal.

Looking ahead to 2024, SUNON is adopting more ambitious measures to further its carbon reduction goals. These include: Replacing high-energy-consuming equipment, such as introducing a heat pump circulation system for 24-hour laboratory operations. Increasing the procurement of green electricity to power its factories.Additionally, the company will submit its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment letter in December 2023. For internal emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2), SUNON aims to halve carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

SUNON saves Over 1.1 Billion kWh of Electricity in Three Years. SUNON has consistently focused on developing low-energy, high-efficiency electronic components, recognizing product innovation as a key driver for energy conservation in industrial applications. Its energy-efficient cooling fans and motors enable customers to significantly reduce energy consumption during product use. Meanwhile, employees are actively researching low-carbon materials and advancing energy-saving technologies.

This year, SUNON introduced an internal carbon pricing system, requiring employees to factor carbon emission costs into procurement decisions. This initiative not only enhances the company’s ability to provide sustainable product options to clients but also strengthens its competitive edge in the market.

Simon Wu, Executive Vice President of SUNON, remarked that: “Sustainable development isn’t as distant as it may seem. By starting small and staying committed, your company can create positive change for the planet.” Looking ahead, SUNON remains committed to green sustainability and collaborative carbon reduction across the supply chain. By deepening its low-carbon transformation strategies, the company aims to work hand in hand with partners to achieve a shared vision of sustainable development and ESG goals.
